Victim Services

The Wassamasaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians is committed to promoting the safety, healing, and well-being of Tribal citizens, Native American families, and members of the surrounding community who have been impacted by crime, violence, abuse, or other traumatic events.

 

Through our Victim Services Program, partnered through WILA, we strive to provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed support while respecting the traditions, values, and privacy of those we serve.

 

 

Our Services

We provide or assist with:

  • Crisis intervention and emotional support
  • Information regarding victims' rights
  • Safety planning
  • Referrals to law enforcement and prosecutors
  • Court accompaniment and criminal justice system navigation
  • Assistance completing victim compensation applications
  • Referrals for counseling and behavioral health services
  • Referrals for domestic violence and sexual assault services
  • Assistance obtaining emergency food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and basic necessities
  • Referrals for emergency shelter and housing resources
  • Transportation coordination for victim-related appointments when available
  • Elder abuse and vulnerable adult resource referrals
  • Child and youth victim support referrals
  • Cultural support and traditional healing resources when requested
  • Case coordination with community agencies
  • Follow-up advocacy and ongoing support

The Wassamasaw Tribe believes every victim deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and confidentiality.

Our advocates work to empower victims by providing information, support, advocacy, and referrals so individuals and families can make informed decisions while navigating difficult circumstances.

Services are provided without discrimination and are available regardless of whether a crime has been reported to law enforcement.

 

Need Assistance?

If you or someone you know has been affected by a crime, please contact your Tribal Council Member or the Tribal Office.

Our Council Members will connect you with available resources and, when appropriate, assist with referrals to local, state, Tribal, and federal victim service agencies.
