Growing for Generations: The Wassamasaw Tribe Fruit Orchard

The Wassamasaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians is proud to establish our Tribal Fruit Orchard as part of our expanding Farm and Garden Program. This orchard reflects our commitment to food sovereignty, sustainable agriculture, and preserving the agricultural traditions passed down through generations. As it matures, the orchard will provide fresh fruit, hands-on educational opportunities, and a lasting resource for our Tribal community.

Planting the Seeds of Our Future Through Partnership

We extend our sincere appreciation to The FruitGuys Community Fund for providing the initial grant funding to establish our orchard. We also offer special thanks to Lucy Davis, Director of the Sustainable Agriculture Program at the College of Charleston, and her department for their invaluable guidance, expertise, and assistance during the planning stages of this project. Through these partnerships, we are creating a sustainable agricultural resource that will nourish our community, strengthen our connection to the land, and benefit generations to come.
