Committees

Our committees are an opportunity for you to focus on a particular area that our organization is involved in. They exclusively deal with one particular issue and one goal. Not everyone feels comfortable talking to people on the street or getting their hands dirty with yard work, so the committees are a great way to pick the part of the organization that is right up your alley.
 

Cultural Preservation and Education Committee

  • Committee Chair: Tammy Leach
  • Focus: Safeguard and promote tribal traditions, artwork, and history.
  • Responsibilities:  Organize cultural classes, seminars, and workshops, Provide training in traditional beadwork, weaving, and other crafts.

Powwow and Community Gathering Committee

  • Committee Chair: Janie Leach-Shumak
  • Focus: Plan and coordinate cultural and social events, as well as community work days
  • Responsibilities:  Organize annual powwows and community gatherings, Manage logistics for events, including vendors, performers, and volunteers, workers, and promote these events to the public

Economic Development Committee

  • Committee Chair: Joshua Shumak
  • Focus: Foster economic opportunities and sustainability for the tribe.
  • Responsibilities: Plan and oversee tribal enterprises, Identify grant opportunities and write proposals, Provide resource information and support for tribal members starting businesses.

Elders' Advisory Committee

  • Committee Chair: Geneva Burbage
  • Focus: Ensure the voices of elders guide tribal decisions and programs.
  • Responsibilities: Organize intergenerational programs to share knowledge and stories, Advocate for elder care services and support, and Provide advice to the tribal council on key issues.

Culture Center Development Committee

  • Committee Chair: Lisa Collins
  • Focus: Plan and build a Tribal Culture Center
  • Responsibilities: To design, fundraise, and oversee the construction of a tribal cultural center that preserves, celebrates, and educates others about the tribe’s heritage, history, and contributions.

Housing Repair Committee

  • Committee Chair: Darren Clark
  • Focus: Improve housing and livability within the community.
  • Responsibilities: Work on a Needs Assessment in the community for housing assistance programs, locate grant opportunities for the Tribe to better assist community members with housing needs, and determine member owned businesses that can be paid to assist in those repairs via the grant programs.

Membership Committee:

  • Committee Chair: DJ Clark
  • Focus: Ensure accurate record keeping and support of tribal members
  • Responsibilities: To support tribal members by ensuring accurate records, promoting involvement, and providing resources to enhance the membership experience.
